PREMerko Unveils New Innovations at SIPP 2026
PREMerko, formed by the merger of Keuruu-based PREM (Suomenselän Laminointi Oy) and Helsinki-based Merkopaino, is making its official debut under its new name at the Sign, Print & Promotion trade fair.
“We are bringing samples produced with a new cold foil technique to the fair. This level of technology has not been available in Finland or the surrounding regions before,” says Teemu Pärnänen, entrepreneur at PREMerko. “We are also introducing an AI-powered calculation tool designed for our customers to estimate projects and costs. With this tool, customers can directly see the cost of a project with their desired surface treatments. It includes an editor where users can upload their own materials and mark specific areas for foiling, for example. This speeds up project pricing and improves cost-efficiency. It can also lower the threshold for end-customers to utilize special printing effects.”
According to Pärnänen, the beauty of the cold foiling method lies in the fact that it requires no magnesium or brass plates. As a result, adding gold or silver effects to printed products becomes faster and more affordable than ever.
“This is particularly well-suited for advertising printers who produce small, variable batches quickly. The same applies to small runs in the packaging industry. The method allows for extensive, striking metallic effects very cost-effectively. It is sure to generate significant interest at the fair,” Pärnänen believes.
PREM, located in the Otava Printing Village, acquired a majority stake in Helsinki-based Merkopaino two years ago. The company provides printing effects and surface treatments for Finnish printing houses and packaging plants.
“The merger has streamlined operations for both of us, as we can shift work between locations based on workload and equipment availability. We have grown quite steadily over the last decade, and I hope for the same this year.”
